Umthombo youngsters swim the “Midmar Mile” in South Africa
A team of children from Umthombo made history recently by being the first team of former street children to swim the Midmar Mile in Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa. The youngsters who are part of Umthombo’s surfing programme took part in what has become a major event, thanks to the support of Shoprtite/Checkers, a South African supermarket chain and eThekwini Municipality Lifesaving. All of the boys completed the swim, which takes about 45 minutes of hard swimming! Well done lads…our partner, Umthombo, provides alternatives to street life for street children in Durban, South Africa.
