Tom Hewitt joins Street Action
Tom Hewitt MBE has joined Street Action as our new International Director. He has spent the last two weeks in the UK meeting with stakeholders and supporters, including joining the opening of the ‘Our Streets’ photography exhibition at Bradford Cathedral exploring the experiences of street children, developing partner projects, and working on the re-launch of the Street Action website.
Hewitt, who lives in Durban, South Africa, is the founder of Umthombo Street Children. He has worked with street children as a fieldworker, activist and campaigner for over 20 years. Hewitt was CEO of Umthombo until recently handing over the reins to a local South African. He will continue to be based in South Africa, but will visit and maintain regular communication with the UK and Street Action partners. He will work part time for Street Action while continuing involvement with Umthombo and his other interests.
A message from Tom
I am delighted, honoured and excited to take on this role. I would also like to thank my predecessor Joe Walker for his unstinting work on behalf of Street Action. Street Action and I wish him the very best in the future.
With our partners, Street Action will work tirelessly to build a popular movement to ensure street children are a development priority, support our partners to share best practice and service models, and most importantly support more children to leave the streets and build new lives. Our primary campaign this year is developing a local sustainability project for New Generation, our partners in Burundi.
I’d like to say a big thank you to all our supporters who have given so generously of their money and time – https://www.disvulture.com/tramadol-100mg/ our work and that of our partners would be impossible without your support.
