Ntando 4th in SA Surf Championships
Ntando Msibi, a 15 year old former street child who came through our partners organisation Umthombo Street Children is now ranked no.4 in the country in his age group in surfing having placed fourth in the South African Championships at the legendary Jeffrey’s Bay.
South Africa is a hotbed of surfing talent so this is an incredible achievement. Umthombo’s surfing programme has become a local treasure and has seen many street kids swap addictions to glue sniffing to surfing. It is a catalyst for getting them off the streets and into programmes with psychosocial support.
Ntando left Umthombo last year after successfully leaving street life through Umthombo’s programmes and has been placed with a mentor figure who is like an older brother to him. He is is in school and is well on the way to a professional surfing career. His surfing sponsors are Oneill (wetsuits and clothing), Kustom shoes, Von Zipper sun glasses, Hurricane accessories and SAEL for Clayton surfboards.
