New Generation – Innovation for sustainability!
New Generation in Burundi develop leaders of integrity and compassion for the future of the country. At its core is its work with street children. This week three former street children graduated from vocational school (see pic). Well done to all at New Generation and especially to the three lads! As well as getting kids off the streets, educated and empowered, it fuses their experiences with those of top school leaders in its leadership academy. The results are fantastic. Sustaining this has always been the problem which is why Street Action has been committed to supporting the development of the Tree cafe, a sustainable income project designed as an income generator for the work. It is up and running! Dieudonné Nahimana, the Director of New Generation has (another!) innovative idea to set the Tree cafe apart. he is bringing back the ipamba. This is a Burundian banana leaf wrapped “lunch” that everyone remembers taking to school as kids. Even the President! Now, Dieudonné is launching New generation’s “iPamba 2.0.” Its the old ipamba upgraded and on sale at the Tree cafe! At Street Action, we love ideas like these. We remain committed to ensuring that Tree Cafe is developed over this next year as an income generator for the work with street children.
You can stand in solidarity with what New Generation are doing by supporting the work on a monthly basis through a standing order with Street Action. Thanks!
