Supporting former street children in Durban
Street Action is committed to supporting Umthombo's work with former street children. Umthombo is led by trained and experienced practitioners and former street children. Together they bring a fusion of ideas and experiences to supporting street children and play key roles in delivering and developing new strategies to enable street children to leave the streets and reintegrate into society.
Also, there are many young people in Durban between the ages of 16 and 24 who, for a variety of reasons, were unable to make it off the streets as children. Working with Umthombo we are supporting the Life Space programme, a halfway house for 16-24’s who do not have a stable home environments to return to full-time. Life Space provides them with councelling, life skills, educational programmes and the opportunity to find training and employment.
