Street Children have a right to be included in research
Street Action’s Joe Walker was joined by Dr Nigel Rollins from the World Health Organisation (WHO) to present the research project “If a child cries (dies) in the street, does anybody hear?” to the All Party Parliamentary Group on Street Children at the House of Commons.Speaking to an invited audience of MPs, Peers, practitioners and NGOs, representatives from UNICEF UK and DFID joined the panel to discuss the latest findings and policy recommendations from the research. The research was funded by DFID (Southern Africa).

Welcome to Durban 2010: The Deloitte Street Child World Cup
"Once you see them as children, and you see them doing art, you see them as humans again"(John Wroe, SCWC arts team). Day Five is a rest day from the football at the Street Child World Cup, but today's film explores how the arts is helping to change the way people perceive street children.As one of the founding members of the SCWC, and a long-term partner of hosts Umthombo Street Children, Nick Turner, co-director of Street Action will be in Durban supporting the event, blogging and tweeting as well as posting a daily three minute film of the highlights from the days events.

Opportunities and challenges for our partners in 2010
Joe Walker, Street Action's co-director, will be travelling to South Africa this month to catch up with our partner Umthombo Street Children in Durban. In April Dieudonné Nahimana, founder and director of New Generation in Burundi, will be coming to the UK to spend some time with Street Action. This will be followed by a trip to Burundi in the early summer.

Hopes for Street Action
Street Action's patron, The Rt. Hon. Paul Boateng addressed a reception at University College London (UCL)on the subject of 'Africa - 2010 and beyond. What does the future hold for Street Children?' He described Africa’s street children as “unfinished business on a massive scale" and how "overcoming crippling and debilitating circumstances is one the things that makes Africa's street children special".After, he spoke to Street Action's co-director Joe Walker on his hopes for Street Action and partners in 2010 as captured on the video above.

Street Action Christmas Reception

World AIDS Day: The missing face of HIV – Street Children
As the world marks World AIDS Day on 1st December, Street Action would like to draw attention to the millions of street children around the world who are affected by the disease but continue to be the hidden face of the global pandemic.

Local events really make a difference
On Saturday local band from Crouch End, North London The Grateful Dads hosted an evening of music and fun to raise money for Street Action. Despite the awful weather their loyal following of fans turned up to hear the music and support the work of Street Action in Burundi and South Africa. Thank you to all those who came and over £1000 was raised.
Down the road in Hackney, the local Round Chapel monthly Community meal held a Christmas fair and donated a percentage of the takings to Street Action. £120 was given on the night.

20 Years of the Convention on the Rights of the Child
As the world celebrates the achievements of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child on its 20th anniversary Street Action along with the Consortium for Street Children, a network of 50 organisations operating in over 120 countries, are drawing attention to the estimated 100 million street children whose rights are often ignored and violated.

Be louder together! Stop violence against street children
The 20th November is the 20th anniversary of the UN convention on the Rights of the Child.
The Consortium for Street Children (CSC) recently launched a new campaign REALISING RIGHTS: STOP VIOLENCE AGAINST STREET CHILDREN which includes an online petition. The Consortium for Street Children hope to get 1000 signatures on this petition before the anniversary of the UN convention on the Rights of the Child on 20th November.
