This December our partner in Kenya Action for Children in Conflict welcome their new director John Muiruir. We are delighted to be working in partnership with John who has over twenty years experience of working with street children and extensive knowledge of the child rights sector in east Africa.

Prior to his appointment to AfCiC John was the project manager at the African Medical and Research Foundation (AMREF) overseeing the Dagoretti Child in Need Project, a street children rescue and empowerment initiative.

Between 1997 and 2007 he worked for the Undugu Society of Kenya working directly with street children and their families, mainly doing street work, visiting homes, placing young people in schools, counselling and organizing sporting activities for disadvantaged slum youth. He has particular interest in child protection issues and has worked with UNICEF in Kenya on developing a training programme for NGO staff in child protection.

John has been connected to Street Action’s work for a few years through his connection to Joe Walker and Cycle Africa.

John say's, "I am delighted to be part of the great team and the AfCiC family I look forward to AfCiC transforming the lives of hundreds of children who live and work in the streets of Thika, through innovative programmes that promote and observe the human rights of every child who is exposed to vulnerability.".
